USS Peleliu (LHA 5)
SAN DIEGO (Dec. 18, 2010) The amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA 5) transits San Diego Harbor after a seven-month deployment. The Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group deployed to the U.S. 7th and U.S. 5th Fleet areas of responsibility conducting humanitarian relief in Pakistan and counter-piracy operations off the Horn of Africa. USS Peleliu (LHA 5)
PACIFIC OCEAN (June 13, 2010) The amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA 5) transits past the island of Peleliu, rendering honors to the island and the historic battle for which the ship is named. The Battle of Peleliu was one of the bloodiest battles in the Pacific during World War II, with eight Medal of Honor recipients. Peleliu is the flagship of the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group, on a scheduled deployment to the western Pacific Ocean.
